HENDERSONVILLE - Pardee UNC Health Care is proud to announce four of its oncologists were honored by the National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) for their commitment to cancer research and the number of patient enrollments in clinical trials. Praveen Vashist, M.D.; John Hill, M.D.; Navin Anthony, D.O.; and Alexander Treemont, D.O. were presented with their awards at the 2022 NCORP National Meeting. Dr. Praveen Vashist received a Gold Certificate of Excellence for accruing between 10 to 39 patients to clinical trials in the past year. Drs. John Hill and Navin Anthony both received Silver Certificates of Excellence for accruing between five to nine patients in the past year. Dr. Alexander Treemont received an Honorable Mention for accruing between one to four patients to clinical trials in the past year.

“Cancer research is an important component of our cancer program and our physicians and staff are committed to providing additional treatment options to increase chances for overcoming cancer while allowing patients to remain close to home,” said Brian Leutner, administrative director, Pardee Oncology Services. “Congratulations to these physicians and thank you for keeping our program and community engaged in clinical research.”

Pardee’s Cancer Research Program is aligned with a cooperative group system of medical centers conducting cancer research that receives federal funding for cancer research. These trials are designed to test new ways to diagnose, treat and prevent cancer, manage symptoms or side effects from treatment, extend disease-free survival and improve quality of life. At Pardee, patients have access to clinical trials, regardless of the stage of cancer. Through a partnership with Southeast Clinical Oncology Research Consortium (SCOR), Pardee is one of only three medical centers in western North Carolina to offer cancer clinical trials, providing more than 50 National Cancer Institute-sponsored clinical trials on average to the community. Moreover, Pardee’s affiliation with UNC Health and the UNC Cancer Network offers additional research and treatment options to patients.
