Pro-Tips Submission Guidelines

Share Your Business Expertise with Our Readers!

The WNC Business Pro-Tips section is a platform where business owners and experts can share their expertise with our readers.

What We're Looking For:

Pro-Tips articles should offer concrete advice, best practices, or helpful information that readers can immediately apply to their own businesses. Think "how-to" guides, checklists, insightful analyses of industry trends, or explanations of complex business topics. The goal is to educate and inform, not to sell. Pro-tips articles are designed to offer expert advice and insights in a neutral and informative manner, without being promotional or advertorial in nature.

Key Criteria:

  • Actionable: Provide clear, practical steps readers can take.

  • Valuable: Offer genuinely helpful information that benefits our audience.

  • Non-Promotional: Avoid direct advertising or sales pitches for your business, products, or services. Focus on sharing your expertise. Overly promotional material will not be considered for the Pro-Tips section.

    • YES: "4 Questions to Ask Your Business Accountant in Advance of Tax Season" (Offers valuable advice and positions the author as an expert.)

    • NO: "5 Reasons Why You Should Use XYZ Accounting" (Overly promotional and focuses on selling a specific service.)

  • Pro-tips authors must conduct business in Western North Carolina.

  • Original Content: Submissions should be original and not published elsewhere.

  • Author Byline: The byline may only include the name of the writer and a broad, professional designation (such as attorney, business owner, or manager). We do not allow any additional information such as personal bios, phone numbers, website links, or business names in the byline. This helps ensure that the content remains focused on providing valuable tips, not promoting a particular individual or business.

  • All accepted pro-tips articles will appear both online and in print, unless otherwise discussed.

Submission Guidelines:

  • One Submission Per Business Per Year: We accept only one Pro-Tips article per business per calendar year.

  • Word Count: Articles should be approximately 700 words.

  • AP Style: Please adhere to Associated Press (AP) style guidelines.

  • Editing Process: Our editor will review your submission and provide edits for your review and approval via Google Docs. Please respond promptly to editorial feedback.

  • Submission: Submit your article by emailing a Google Doc link to [email protected].

  • We accept submissions on a rolling basis.

If you have questions or want to pitch a topic, please feel free to contact editor Emma Castleberry at [email protected]. We look forward to receiving your valuable Pro-Tips submissions!
