TIP expands in WNC

Sep 12, 2023 01:12PM ● By WNC Business
TIP of Western North Carolina is a chapter of Trauma Intervention Programs, Inc., a national non-profit organization founded in 1985 in San Diego County. TIP has 15 affiliates serving in approximately 250 cities across the nation. The Western North Carolina chapter receives support and guidance from a local Advisory Committee.

TIP is recruiting volunteers to serve in Buncombe and Henderson Counties. A Fall 2023 Training Academy will start on September 28 and continue through October 16. There is a $45 secure a spot in the class.

Volunteers respond quickly to traumatic incidents at the request of law enforcement, fire and hospital personnel to offer emotional support and practical resources to survivors, family members, witnesses, friends and bystanders. Volunteers are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to support those in need following an unexpected death or injury, suicide, overdose, motor vehicle or other accident, fire, sexual assault or other tragic event - often on the worst day of someone's life.

Being a TIP Volunteer is a way of making an immediate difference in a person’s life. TIP Volunteers are called upon to support someone at the very worst time in their lives. Being a TIP Volunteer is not easy, but it is rewarding.

TIP fills a critical void in the services being provided by emergency personnel by allowing for total client care. TIP is available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, to arrive at the scene of a tragedy within twenty minutes of being called. TIP provides assistance to survivors and families within the first few hours of an incident. TIP provides ‘emotional first aid’ and serve as a liaison with emergency workers.
