Joshua Denton named IFB Solutions Employee of the Year

IFB Solutions, the largest employer of people who are blind in the US, recognized Asheville manufacturing employee Joshua Denton as its 2024 companywide Employee of the Year.

Since joining the team in 2022, Denton, who is visually impaired, has consistently exceeded expectations in his role as a sewing machine operator. He has mastered multiple operations across numerous manufacturing lines in IFB’s Asheville facility — producing field gear and equipment for the US military, including complex textiles like the “woobie” poncho liner and fuel handler suits. Not only does he excel on the manufacturing floor, but he also steps up, when needed, to greet visitors at the Sardis Road facility’s reception area.

Prior to arriving at IFB, Denton led a successful career as a local Walmart manager, but after he began experiencing vision loss from retinitis pigmentosa and Coats disease, he had no choice but to resign from his long-standing position. Having previously referred his brother, who is visually impaired, for employment at the Asheville facility, Denton reached out to inquire about training with the company himself. Just two short years later, he has become an invaluable asset to the company.

Denton is heavily involved in the local community, currently serving on the North Carolina Commission for the Blind’s Council, previously serving as chairman of the North Carolina State Independent Living Council and on the Thrive Mental Health board of directors. In his spare time, he enjoys playing trivia, listening to local bands, supporting local breweries, and spending time with his family.
