Dogwood Health Trust Shares Additional Response to Helene Relief

It has been more than a month since Hurricane Helene devastated our region. In that time, many stories of both incredible loss and incredible hope have been shared. Each story is a reminder of our region’s collective spirit and how our determination to help others is as much a part of our history as it is our present and future.
Dogwood Health Trust has been focused on being as supportive and coordinated as possible in their relief response. There’s so much work that lies ahead as we recover and rebuild for resilience, and Dogwood is committed to being part of this work for the long term.
A Second Round of Relief Funding
In late October, Dogwood announced another $20 million in relief funding, bringing the total to more than $50 million, which is in addition to 2024 annual grantmaking. This second round builds upon early commitments to provide direct relief and assistance, support FEMA navigation and legal referrals, and maintain critical health services across the region.
Local partners ranging from United Ways to local community foundations, YMCAs to community centers, and others are helping distribute these relief funds, meeting community members where they are each day since the storm. Housing Stability & WNC Small Business Initiative
With an eye towards longer-term recovery, our newest grants prioritize support for housing stability for the unhoused, veterans, and tenants who are older or living with disabilities (approximately $4 million).
Recognizing that small businesses are the heart of our local economy, Dogwood provided a $10 million lead grant to Appalachian Community Capital for a new WNC Small Business Initiative. This initiative prioritizes the urgent financial needs of small, local businesses by offering grants of up to $25,000.
