Avery County Young Professionals (ACYP) has distributed $40,000 in recovery grants through its Build Back Avery program, providing vital support to residents affected by Hurricane Helene. This marks the program’s first grant cycle, targeting needs such as home and driveway repairs, utility bills, and essential expenses like groceries and gas.

In total, 84 applicants across Avery County received assistance. The funds were allocated to maximize impact, with $35,000 issued as direct payments, $3,000 paid to utility providers, and $2,000 distributed in gas and grocery cards.

The initiative was fueled by community-driven fundraising efforts, including events and contributions from local businesses such as Mountain Grounds Coffee, Grandfather Vineyard & Winery, and Banner Elk Shirt Company. These partnerships, alongside individual donors, made the grant program possible.

As the organization continues its recovery efforts, ACYP has applied for non-profit status to sustain and expand programs like Build Back Avery. Future goals include launching additional community grants, such as a planned initiative to support educators later this year.

Founded in 2023, ACYP focuses on uniting young professionals through community engagement and development opportunities. For more information or to contribute to future programs, visit averyyoungpros.com.
